Back on track

MAY 2, 2016 Members of the Pa. State Land Tax Fairness Coalition met via conference call on Friday, April 29. Listed below are some of the highlights and action items:

--State Representative Martin Causer and aides to Senator Joseph Scarnati and Representative Mike Hanna joined us on the call. Their insights were instructive as we revise our strategies.

--Members of the Steering Committee will be scheduling a meeting in Lock Haven (Clinton County) in the coming weeks to devise the plan we will be implementing. Its focus is to rally support from Senate and House members, organizations that have already (formally or informally) come aboard, and the general public.

--Those interested in serving on the Steering Committee should send an email to Commissioner Pete Smeltz at rsmeltz@clintoncountypa.com, and Potter County Commissioner Paul Heimel at pheimel@pottercountypa.net.

--Numerous opinions and suggestions were aired. An overarching theme was the need to identify potential sources to generate the revenue to fund the higher payments-in-lieu-of taxes. Those costs would be about $14 million annually under HB 1224 and $7 million annually under HB 344.
