Back to work
AUG. 17, 2015 -- Pennsylvania State Land Tax Fairness Coalition returns to Harrisburg today for another round of meetings as the state budget/tax policy stalemate continues.
Today’s agenda includes a meeting with a Pa. Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources official about DCNR’s dependence on state land oil/gas leasing and timber sale revenue to fund its operational expenses.
One plank of the coalition’s platform calls for a portion of that revenue to be carved out for school districts, counties and townships. DCNR officials have pointed out that this would result in that agency facing a funding shortfall. (See June 9 Latest News story, “DCNR Resistance.”)
Coalition members will also meet with an influential member of the House of Representatives to seek his support for an increase in the in-lieu-of-taxes payments made by the state for tax-exempt state forest, game and park lands.
