Two more allies
FEB. 22, 2016 Pennsylvania State Land Tax Fairness Coalition has added two more statewide organizations to its list of supporters. The Pennsylvania Landowners Association (PLA) and the Pennsylvania Forest Products Association have both endorsed the coalition's campaign for higher payments-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILT) for tax-exempt state forest, park and game lands. They're added to a growing list of coalition supporters that includes the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors, the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, the Pennsylvania Association of Rural and Small Schools, and several affiliates of the Pennsylvania State Grange.
Coalition leaders continue to push state lawmakers to approve the increased PILT during settlement talks on the overdue 2015-16 state budget, and/or through two bills introduced in the House of Representatives by Reps. Martin Causer and Mike Hanna. PLA President Keith Klingler of Venango County contacted coalition leaders last week to express his organization's strong support, inspired most recently by additional privately owned acreage being acquired by the state and, thus, made tax-exempt.
